Observation sites
To observe birds migrating, the region has sites which are recognized by the European scientific community as “of international importance” for the survival of migratory birds. Outings are proposed, guided by passionate ornithologists.
Atlantic Coast:
In the Landes, Arjuzanx, Captieux, the Barthes de l’Adour and Orx Marsh, are real sanctuaries for white storks, booted eagles, grey cranes and greylag geese.
The Banc d’Arguin in Arcachon Bay with the must-not-miss Maison de la Nature in Teich, as well as the __Cousseau Marsh Nature reserve__ in Médoc are havens of peace for these birds passing through.
Île d’Oléron and Île de Ré with the Lilleau des Niges Nature Reserve are paradisiacal destinations for those who love birds and preserved nature. The Moëze-Oléron National Nature Reserve in particular hosts waders, whose legs are of varying lengths and who mainly eat small invertebrates which live in the mud flats or in the sand.
Close to La Rochelle, Aiguillon Bay Nature Reserve is the maritime entrance to the Marais Poitevin. An exceptional site where around 500,000 birds flock together every year, especially waterfowl.
Vassivière – Plateau des Millevaches
The Landes Marsh Reserve, with namely over 240 species of birds observed and the Millevaches RNP where 12 species of birds are listed, are stop-off places for migratory birds such as: the red-backed shrike, the European Nightjar, woodlarks, etc.
Pyrénées
Organbidexka Pass is one of the finest European spots located at 1,300 m altitude. Here you can observe especially red kites, bearded vultures and storks. And, finally, the Ossau Valley Nature Reserve is like no other as you can observe griffon vultures with their 2.60 m wingspan. It’s fascinating.
Dozens of millions fly over the region. An amazing experience to enjoy with the family!
Legendary wood pigeons, white and black storks, black kites, European honey buzzards, as well as thrushes, doves, small passerines, etc. a magical show that leaves you wanting more.
