Croisière dégustation - Cité du vin

Set off on a river cruise, five ideas for excursions that leave from Bordeaux

There's nothing like a boat trip for getting a different perspective! From Bordeaux, you've got the choice between several offers for a day, half-day, week or even just for a glass of wine at “apéro” hour... not forgetting the Bat-Cub, the river shuttle.

Le phare de Patiras

Discover the Estuary islands

Did you know that an archipelago of around ten islands was scattered across the Gironde estuary? You can visit some by boat. Ile Margaux, for example, with its vineyards where you can visit the wineries and do some wine-tasting.

If you berth on the île de Patiras, you can settle down for lunch in the islands shelter then climb to the top of the lighthouse to admire the 360° view. A moment out of time!

River cruises, between terroir and cultural discoveries

You'll need 5 to 7 days to embark on a river boat for a gentle holiday on the move. Upstream from Bordeaux, the cruises take you on the Garonne towards Entre-deux-Mers and Sauternais. Then downstream towards the Gironde estuary, with its small islands, the cities of Pauillac – entry port for the Médoc vineyards – and Blaye with its famous Vauban citadel. From the estuary, we head up the Dordogne towards Libourne and Saint-Emilion, UNESCO-listed medieval gem with its vineyard landscapes.

Come and discover the Girondin coast and its picturesque landscapes aboard the Arawak, a 30-metre former tuna ship. Discover places only accessible by sea, while observing the wild flora and fauna. The Arawak invites everyone to join in the manoeuvres, steering and daily tasks on board.

Miroir d'eau

He is less than 10 years old, but facing a monumental building of almost three centuries, he is now the attraction.

Situated opposite the Place de la Bourse, between the Quai de la Douane and the Quai Louis XVIII, this spectacular work of art, by landscape architect Michel Corajoud, alternates extraordinary effects of mirror and fog

The regular metamorphosis of 2 cm of water on a gigantic granite slab transforms the magical place into a permanent stage for children to play, for lovers to daydream, for refreshing strolls in hot weather with their feet in the water.

The most photographed place in Bordeaux, between the Garonne and the 18th century facade, the Miroir d'Eau is now part of the contemporary World Heritage. You too can bring your photo touch: post and sign your photos of the Miroir d'Eau from Bordeaux to your friends around the world.
