The Route des Cols runs across the Pyrenees from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean. With its 34 cols and 17 daily loops (by car or motorcycle), it invites you to enjoy the sites selected to illustrate the riches of the Pyrenean mountain range.
The Nouvelle-Aquitaine part of this spectacular itinerary goes from Hendaye on the Basque coast to the Col d’Aubisque in Béarn, covering 234 kilometres and 12 cols. It proposes 5 loops per day to discover Basque villages, the Basque mountains, the Musketeers, the Béarn mountains and a tour of the valleys via the Aubisque and the Soulor, with their marvellous panoramic views.
The site www.laroutedescols.com will give you all practical information. The 3D cartography allows you to visualise the itinerary and you can also prepare your trip from one point to the next, with a list of accommodation and sites to see at each stage, or find out the details of the daily loops as well as a host of ideas for trekking.
The Route des cols (mountain passes) is also a favourite for seasoned cyclists. Pages dedicated to cycling in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques help you get off to a good start and offer lots of useful information.
