The ponds of La Jemaye were created in the 15th century by monastic communities who, by practicing fish farming, had a safe and sustainable food resource. Surrounded by the forest of the Double, partly replanted with pines in the 19th century to fight against stagnant water and malaria, the ponds attract many animal species, the most emblematic of which is the cistude turtle, which you may be able to contemplate from the observatory set up on the discovery path. The Grand Etang de La Jemaye was acquired by the Department, which manages the tourist activity while preserving the environment within the framework of the Sensitive Natural Areas. With free access, it offers a swimming area supervised in season, play areas for children and many outdoor activities. There are also fun walking maps available (for children aged 4 to 12).
The route is recommended for mountain bikes or VTC as it is partly on forest tracks. You will cross hamlets and villages of the Double and will pass by the farm of Parcot, a model of traditional farm open to the public, before arriving at the Grand Etang which offers multiple activities around water, fauna and flora typical of the Double.
The Pombonne lake is located in a natural public park of 55 hectares, ideal for walking and discovering the natural environment.
Swimming is authorized and supervised every day from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., from Monday, July 3rd to Sunday, August 27th included.
Outside of the above conditions, swimming is formally forbidden, except by specific order. Animals are not allowed in the swimming area. Dogs must be kept on a leash.
The guinguette is open from Easter to All Saints' Day, 6 days a week, on the beach from 9 am to 10:30 pm and in summer 7 days a week, on the beach from 9 am to 11 pm. The Guinguette offers local cuisine and musical evenings with an open stage, depending on the program.
You can also discover on the site, a "nature" water level, which hosts several observatories to observe the fauna (mainly birds).
The European pond turtle, a freshwater turtle, is present in La Jemaye. This protected species is experiencing a decline in its range due to the deterioration of its habitat or competition with the Florida turtle. The cistude goes into hibernation in the fall and for the whole winter. To observe it, discretion is required because the animal is shy!
The site is also very frequented by birds, among them the Great Cormorant, easily recognizable and an outstanding fisherman.
Beautiful belvedere when you arrive at the estate, on a valley with a view on Dordogne’s valley and the Gironde hillsides of Sainte Radegonde.
Camper vans are welcomed.
La Chanteracoise is considered to be the last traditional biscotti maker in France. Historically based in the heart of the Périgord Blanc region, in the small village of St Germain du Salembre, it produces a wide range of rusks, toasts and croutons, and has preserved the authentic know-how of the biscuit-makers of the 1950s. Its attention to the origin and quality of the raw materials used in the manufacture of its products contribute to its desire to be distributed exclusively in delicatessens, cooperative shops and organic shops.
Since 2015, La Chanteracoise has taken over the Billeau brothers' biscuit factory and expanded its range to include croquants and palets gourmands.

Zétoulu - Literature
(gives a history lesson to Zétoulu, who seems bored) ... because you see, my dear, Bergerac was a Protestant stronghold in the 16th century. King Henry III signed the "Peace of Bergerac" there, putting an end to the sixth war of religion. Isn't that exciting?
(snores) Yes... exciting, yes...
This cloister was founded a century later, under the reign of Louis XIII, in order to revive the Catholic faith in the city!
