1. Must-not-miss: Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie in Aubusson
The delightful town of Aubusson, just 1h30 east of Limoges, is the only town in the world where all professions related to making tapestry coexist.
It’s been over five hundred years now that tapestry has been woven in Aubusson, known throughout the world for its unique know-how, and listed by UNESCO as Intangible Heritage of Humanity since 2009.
While you’re in Aubusson, visit the Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie whose mission is to preserve, enrich and promote this great know-how. Here, you’ll discover a collection tracing five and a half centuries of production, from the oldest tapestries to those of today.

Atelier A2 proposes workshops and courses to discover everything about weaving wool in Aubusson.
In her studio, France-Odile Perrin-Crinière accompany you for a discovery, initiation or improvement course for young and old alike, from the age of 9.
During the course, you will discover the world of tapestry, dyeing and spinning, restoration workshop, etc.

2. Visit a firm: Filature Fonty in Rougnat
Visit one of the last remaining wool spinning mills still active in France!
Once a month, the team from Filature Fonty organizes an in-depth tour of its workshops. Admire the gestures and know-how which have been handed down here for some 7 generations.
You’ll be fascinated by the ingenuity of the mechanisms of the machines used.
An incredible industrial site, located in an extraordinary setting in a place called Moulin Neuf, in Rougnat (35 km from Aubusson), on the banks of a small river surrounded by hills, forests and prairies: ever-so bucolic!
Tours take place every 3rd Wednesday of the month (except in August), by appointment. During summer, two Open Days are also proposed.

3. Event: The National Wool Days in Felletin
Every year, at the end of October, at the gateway to the Plateau de Millevaches Regional Nature Park, the must-not-miss event for lovers and fans of fine wool and yarn takes place in Felletin (10 km from Aubusson).
You can discover this expertise by visiting a craftspeople’s fair (over 130 spinners, mattress-makers, felt-makers, bonnet-makers, weavers, etc.) and attending demonstrations of Basse-Lisse loom and needlepoint tapestry, plant dyes, knitting and spinning.
