I’ve arrived in Bordeaux! While it’s still early, I like to explore the streets of the city on the banks of the Garonne, which are still beautifully sleeping. It’s so early, the café terraces aren’t even out. I start my wandering at Place de la Bourse, and set off towards Saint-Pierre’s church.

It’s half-past ten, and time to sit down with a coffee near Porte Cailhau. I meet some fellow illustrators and hang out while we knock up a sketch.

There’s plenty of options for lunch. I fancy some fish ‘n’ chips. It’s not very French, but the fish is fresh and the chips handmade, and it’s all served with a smile.
Place de la Comédie. I settle down near the Grand Théâtre to draw the detail of a column, which I find so fascinating with its impressive clock. A fine example of top class craftsmanship.
