I’d go for a trip on along the Courant d’Huchet in a galupe, a flat-bottomed boat that was commonly used by Gascon merchants. Then I’d go to Villa Arnaga, Edmond Rostang’s home in Cambo-les-Bains, and enjoy its gardens.
I’d play the tourist and wander the streets of Saint-Jean-de-Luz.

I’d go and tuck into some mouchous, our Basque Country macarons, from Maison Pariès.
I’d take my friends to savour the gourmet cuisine of L’Atelier de Gaztelur in Arcangues, and recommend they take the time to soak in their surroundings, an old manor house with views of La Rhune.

I’d watch the sunset from the Maisons marines d’Huchet. Luxury right in the middle of the sea of dunes that make up the Landes’ coastline.

By Michel Guérard
Michel Guérard is one of the founding fathers of French gastronomy. Known for eating – and living – well, he moved to Les Landes in 1971, making his home in a little spa town called Eugénie-les-Bains. At the Près d’Eugénie, a certified luxury Relais et Châteaux, visitors can lose themselves in the gentle torpor of the garden spa, sit down for a delicious Michelin-starred meal, and take a cookery class from the man himself.
