Brive Book Fair, supported by the French National Book Centre, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region and Corrèze Department, is one of the major literary events in France. The 300 authors and hundred-odd publishers who get together there, the awards presented and the wealth of exchanges illustrate this.
As do its prestigious Presidents, including François Busnel this year. Journalist and producer of the program La Grande Librairie on France 5, this great book lover recently made a documentary film on Jim Harrison, "Only the earth is eternal", which will be screened during the 3 days.
Brive Book Fair awards several prizes, great references for readers:
- the Prix des lecteurs de la Ville de Brive-Suez (Book Readers’ Prize), which honours a French novel of the literary season,
- the Prix 12/17 Crédit Agricole (Crédit Agricole Bank 12/17 Prize), which concerns literature for teenagers to give them insight (encourage them!) to read,
- the Prix de la langue française (French Language Prize), awarded to a personality from the literary, artistic or scientific world whose work has played a significant role in illustrating the quality and beauty of the French language, selected by a jury comprising members of the Académie Française, of the Académie Goncourt, writers and journalists (Laure ADLER, Tahar BEN JELLOUN, Hélène CARRÈRE D’ENCAUSSE, etc.)
- the Grand Prix de poésie par l’Académie Mallarmé (Académie Mallarmé Poetry Prize), awarded to a French-speaking poet for their whole work and who published a collection of poetry during the year.
